Course Reflection

Technical communication is a board field that includes communicating about technical topic, communicating by using technology and providing instructions about how to do something. Throughout this course we taught how to use the different tools in technical communication. We were first introduced to blogging; it is an intuitive part of this course in which we learn how to express our self on all forms of technology. The blog page lets other sees what the writer things about a particular type of technology and gives them the option to comment on it, so as to let the writer know on points should be change or omitted. The first written assignment of this course was to write a professional memo, most of us like myself read a memo, I never understand what the purpose of a memo was. But after having to write one I truly understand the purpose of a memo. A memo is note written in a professional manner to let you know of changes or update in a company. Our second written assignment was technical description of a product; mine for example was an arc welding robot. We were given research link which help us get the necessary information needed to complete this task. The final assignment was a recommendation report, in which we had to recommend a product to senior management to buy and install. Throughout this course we were taught how to do research and write technically and not fictionally. We these new skills which we gain form this course it makes us better writer and make us appreciate technical writing more. The best part of this course was the simplicity in which the information was presented to us via a web site which out class could access. “eng259.blogsite.org/”

Reviving a review for canon power shot elph 330 of pcmag by Jim Fisher. The link provided below is for the review page.""Enjoying my review""

My review would be based on the canon power shot elph 330 hs. The pros of this camera is that it have a short shutter lag, what this mean is that the camera can take out more pic for every minute when shooting images. The camera also offers a distinctive feature of having a 10 x zoom range, this enable the camera to focus on images that are far away. One of the disadvantage of the camera is that is lacks full manual controls, meaning that some time you are limited to camera processor on capturing images.
Two significant product specifications that was presents by the reviewer Jim Fisher, was that this camera had an awesome 10x zoom and that is was capable of capturing image, with a 12 megapixel cmos sensor.
The reviewer compares the elph 330 hs to the Samsung dv150f in terms of lens. The lens on the elph covers more distance at a wider aperture than that of it counterpart the Samsung dv150f. Then he compared the lcd of the elph 330 to Nikon Coolpix p310 .  The lcd on elph 330 is viewable from any angel when compared to the Nikon Coolpix p310 which is more expensive camera.
Jim fisher review was based on actual evidence as he compared the elph 330 hs to all the other camera in its category. As in his review he said “the elph 330 hs starts and grabs a photo in just about 1.8 seconds” after that he said “it’ s not absolute fastest compact that we’ve tested”. As you read his observation the more to guide and show the reader that his review is based on actual test.

The main feature that the  reviewer magnified is that the elph 330 hs is a compact camera and it have an out standing 10x zoom, which allows it to take out sharp pictures. Also by having so much features  that the competitor don’t have, the elph 300 is an ideal camera to buy. In terms of pricing and features/ option on the camera the reviewer concluded that buy the elph 330 hs is a good buy. Also the reviewer full fill his responsibility in terms of explaining why buying or even considering to buy this camera is best option for any reader of his review.

Technical description of “NAO Next Gen: the new robot of Aldebaran Robotics – YouTube”. The video technical capabilities of the Aldevaran Robotic Nao next gen are as follow face detection and recognition, convert text to speech in 8 languages, adaptive walking. One of the most unique feature of this robot is that it uses speech recognition to complete a task or objective. The robot can communicate via the internet or Wi-Fi. When needed it can do a whole body movement at once. It have sound localization which helps it to get to a specific location when it is called, it achieved this function by 4 microphone install on the robot. Finally the technical specification of the robot is that is has an onboard Intel atom 1.6 GHz cpu, 35 degrees of freedom and 23” tall. This video is more optimistic as aldebaran is trying to get the viewer to visualize the possibility of nao robots. The creator of this video is the person who is trying to sell the robot and that would be Aldebaran. It did not affect the trustworthiness or accuracy of this ad as the creator would not lie about the specification and capabilities of the nao robot.

Artificial intelligence
“The subfield of computer science concerned with understanding the nature of intelligence and constructing computer systems capable of intelligent action. It embodies the dual motives of furthering basic scientific understanding and making computers more sophisticated in the service of humanity. Artificial intelligence is primarily concerned with symbolic representations of knowledge and heuristic methods of reasoning that is, using common assumptions and rules of thumb”( In McGraw-Hill Concise Encyclopedia of Science and Technology , pp. 176-177).

According to my understanding artificial intelligence is a test program trying to reconstruct human touch, emotions and thinking process. According to McGraw-Hill Concise Encyclopedia of Science and Technology the Nao robot is artificial intelligence as we have to pre define the field in which it would operate, it also can complete simple task that it was program to complete. The Nao robot is also self-aware meaning that it does not depend solely on it program to complete it task as if it encounters a problem it tries to solve it. The Nao robot does not think like a human as it depends on a programmer to start a new task. Nao robot does not simulate human emotions as the don’t have enough of sensor or enough program to mimic human emotions. It is wise for machine to be artificially intelligent as the would one day find us obsolete.

Abstract From Memo

With using an arc welding robot in the production of high- precision automobile parts we help reduce the cost for creating such parts. The robot that I suggested be used to start our pilot program is the IRB4400 from ABB. IRB 4400Compact, versatile robot with medium to heavy handling capacity. The 6-axis robot can handle loads up to 60 kg, or up to 45 kg at very high speeds. Reach: 1.96 meters. What made this robot the ideal test pilot for integration into our production line was the ease in which it can be installed and operated. The robot uses laser to guide its welding gun to specific parts which have to be welded. This produces a seemingly uniform weld every time the robot makes that same weld for that same part. The robot is built on an open structure, meaning that this robot is equipped with a wide range of universal communication interfaces. This helps the robot to connect to a PC for servicing that is much simpler. With all test steps and measures put into place, the integration of these test robots into our production line will be met with ease. Also, with simplifying the cabling systems required for the robot to operate, there will be a reduction in the chances of breakdown.

I chose to write on  arc welding robots, because of my fascination for control systems and programming. With deploying robots in the welding environment, we save on the cost of production and valuable raw materials. The robot will help to solve the problem as these robots can work over an extended period of time with little or no human intervention.

My writing process begins with research on the topic I choose. I normally read and analyze what I have read then I put my thoughts on paper. I then take the time to read and analyze what I have written.  During this process I make changes and and correct my grammatical errors. This assignment differs from my other writing assignment in that this course is intended for professionals and there are no emotions involved in the actual writing. It is more factual and is based on practical applications of the topic in real life scenarios.

narayan blog #2

The main idea of this blog is to enlighten the readers about the similarities between DCS and PLC. Just to educate you, the reader of my blog, PLC stands for Programmable logical control, it is a digital microprocessor used to control machinery on factory assembly lines, cnc lattes, amusement rides and lighting fixtures. DCS, distributed control system is used for manufacturing system processes, in which the controller elements are not in a central location but are distributed throughout the system.

The author went about giving us the similarities between the DCS and PLC, like for example, they both use functional blocks and then he went on telling me, the reader, about the advantage in deploying them in different working condition and the benefits of these control systems in their respective environments.

PLC, for example, was a natural choice of manufacture and the end use was to apply it for safety systems, while the idea on the other hand was to supply DCS with a whole bunch of hardware and software packages including for Human Interface, necessary for the complete automation of the plant, thus facilitating Single Point Configuration in terms of database and communication possible. Today, “Differences between the two has virtually vanished due to Programming / Configuration language standard IEC-61131.” (Asif, 2012)

This post was informative as it discusses the improvement between these two controller systems over the past years since the controller systems have been upgraded to keep up with new technology and trends.” Now, more important is cost, application, system integrity, reliability, maintainability, historical logging / intelligent statistics and learning / training.” (Asif, 2012) The author spends time to blog because he wants to help other electrical engineers out there when deciding on which controller system to deploy in their working environment as easy as possible. As you can see from the author’s blog the similarities in these systems are so close that he leaves the choice in choosing a controller system to you the reader. This is because both of the controller systems can do the same thing. From reading this blog I think can better understand why some companies choose to use one control system over the other.

Narayan's Tech Writing Blog

 Ramesh Nararyan

Welcome to Ramesh Narayan Blog page. I am a second year electrical engineering student at laguardia community college. I am currently working at JFK airport as load control/weight and balance master.
Most of you are probably wonder what my job relates to.I balance air craft and make them take off form point A and then stay safety in flight until it lands at point B.An aircraft is like a sea saw and my job is to make sure it stays balance and dose not exceed any of it limits.
I started school back because i am  interested in control system and emerging technology.
